What is Emergency Break Glass

For a security reason, this is a must have item installed when you deploy door access system. Either you like it or not, this is one a regulation by Jabatan Bomba. Why emergency break glass so importance?

Look at the picture above, usually it will be installed inside the door (to exit) just beside your card reader or push button (if you install, since push button is an accessories item). Why so importance, lets me describe briefly. Its allow you to exit from the door after you break the glass. When fire alarm alert in your building or office, the first thing you must do is to quickly get out from the premise. Most of the time, people get panic and will attend to nearest fire door exit or your main door. If you installed card access here, the fastest way to get out are by breaking the emergency break glass.

So if the purpose of this break glass just to open a door, why can’t we use push button or use our access card instead? Well, you need to push the button everytime the door is close. Almost in all fire related cases, people intend to push the door first and does not care about others. Also, you need your card to open the door. Mostly, people will misplace their own access card.

And, please do not confused your self with fire alarm break glass. See below picture. Depends on your access control system, this fire alarm break glass (usually in red color) just a way to activate alarm system (siren), not for opening the door. Unless, your access card system has been integrated with fire alarm system, you can also use it to open the door.

To break the glass, you can use any hard object that you can grab or by using your own hand. The glass are made for easily break.
